Thank you to our Sponsors a.k.a #FluFighters
Togetherness is everything right now. Today, in the midst of a raging pandemic, I am elated to thank some of my key Sponsors, whom I am naming honorary #FluFighters. The impact my nonprofit was able to make during our inaugural Free Flu Shot Clinic never would have been possible without each of them.
Aid the Journey, Inc.’s Clinic was a success thanks in large part to a generous award received as a VSPINK 2020 Victoria’s Secret PINK GRL PWR Project Scholarship Winner https://www.victoriassecret.com/us/pink/we-are-pink/grl-pwr-project.
Utilizing scholarship award funds, Aid the Journey, Inc. was able to treat refugees to free flu shots during a bright, sunny Halloween day. Our October 31, 2020 Clinic would not have been possible without our new Medical Partner, Kids’ Doc On Wheels . We are honored and humbled to have their Board-certified doctors and nurses as new Community Partners. We are looking forward to our next refugee outreach event https://www.kidsdoconwheels.org/.
It’s the graciousness of our group of Event Sponsors which helped make our Free Flu Shot Clinic extra special. Thank you to Dr. Portia Grayson-Williams for rushing directly from treating patients at Buckhead Smile Center, to join us at our Clinic. From the hundreds of dental kits to the personal dental advice you gave refugees, the donations from Buckhead Smile Center coupled with your time and talents, are truly appreciated https://www.smilecenterteam.com/.
Warm thanks to Refuge Coffee Co. for allowing us to market at your Café, plus providing free coffee and hot chocolate for every refugee attending our Clinic. The warm drinks were just what the doctor ordered to bring bright smiles to the socially distanced refugees awaiting their flu shots, https://www.refugecoffeeco.com/ .
Special shout outs to my Princeton University Faculty Advisor, Aly Kassam-Remtulla, for brainstorming and assisting me with volunteer outreach; my 2019 CDC Disease Detective Camp “Mom” Heather McCann for her willingness to help print the refugee CDC flu fact sheets and brochures https://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/detective/index.htm; and Embrace Refugee Birth’s Tracy Noland for spreading the word about our free Flu Shot Clinic https://www.embracerefugeebirth.com/; and my baby brother, Wesley, who couldn’t wait to dress up as Storm Trooper/PJ Masks’ Gecko to hand out Halloween goodies to refugees who skipped Trick or Treating due to COVID-19.
Last, but far from least, a huge thank you to Art of Life Photography for their generous Event Sponsorship. We always hear a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case, when language is sometimes a barrier their photographer captured priceless images to document our grassroots efforts helping Clarkston-area refugees. https://www.artoflifephotography.com/
Together, each of these Sponsors and Supporters is helping make our community stronger. Thank you all, again, for your unwavering support and continuing to aid the journey towards improving refugee health.
Forever Grateful,
Kennedy
